Well, this is my first blog i have gotten around to making over the course of this class for a multitude of reasons but that's not important. This is my summary of what I observed in the painting discussed in class. First off, it is a representation of the sewing contest that took place between Athena and Arachne. The left side of the painting is dominated by God like entities including Athena and her angelic assistant by her side. On the right side is Arachne and her human assistant. I believe the painting is portraying how in over her head Arachne was in challenging Athena. Athena has a machine to sew with and having another God-like figure as an assistant is probably better than having another human as an assistant (obviously). On the other hand, Arachne seems to be taking a much more primitive approach to her sewing, making the contest completely unfair in general. Also, the room in which the two are seems to be much dimmer than the room in the back of the painting, almost as if the light is being filtered out by some cobwebs draping over the room. Could be a reach but I found it to be an interesting possibility.
